LIKE, a Documentary on the Impact of Social Media

Join Us! Tuesday Nov. 12th, 7pm in the Prospect PAC

PTSA Meeting held just before from 6:30-6:55pm

Join us to watch and discuss LIKE, an IndieFlix Original documentary that explores the impact of social media on our students’ (and our) lives and the effects of technology on the brain. The goal of the film is to inspire and help equip us to self-regulate. Social media is a tool and social platforms are a place to connect, share, and care… but is that what’s really happening?

After the movie, our teachers and a student panel will host a discussion on the effects of Social Media in the classroom and in our students’ lives as described by experts in the field.

Many of our students will see LIKE between Nov. 6-8 with discussion in class, facilitated by their English teachers and Mr. Medina’s Video Production classes.

Reserve your ticket(s)!

Welcome to Prospect & the 2019-20 School Year!

Dear Panther Families,

Prospect PTSA would like to welcome you to Prospect if this is your first year and to welcome you back if you are already a Panther Pride family!  Our goals this year are to get more parents and families engaged at Prospect (there are so many fun ways to do this at the high school level), help our families navigate high school, build a community of support for all of our students and to support our teachers and school in their mission of Owning Our Future.

New families, we hope we can meet you at the New Parent Orientation on Monday, August 5th in the PAC at 9am.  If you can’t make it due to work, don’t worry there will be more opportunities to get up to speed through PTSA meetings, Back to School Night and Prospect Communications like the Daily Bulletin and Principal Pinza’s Prospectives Newsletters.

All Parents, we invite you to our joint PTSA and Panther Paws Meeting on Tuesday, August 13th at 6:30pm in Room 30.  This is a great opportunity to learn what PTSA and Panther Paws are, meet other parents, learn what is going on in the fall and how to get involved (at a level you are comfortable with) at Prospect.

Lastly, if you have a question that you would like another parent to answer please reach out to the PTSA.  We take pride in helping our families make a successful transition to high school.  If we can’t answer a question we can connect you with someone who can.  You can reach us at president@prospectptsa.org.  We are still updating our website and information so stay tuned.

Go Panthers!

Recap of Meeting – PTSA Hosts District Trustee Map Proposed Changes

Our Superintendent Dr. Bravo, Trustee Robert Varich and Trustee Stacey Brown all attended and gave an overview of the proposed changes and the process.  As it is hard to get to meetings like this over the summer we wanted to provide with a recap of the meeting.  One of the main questions we had was:

Q: Why is the Board of Trustees deciding on an election map during the summer?

A: Over the past school year, the District has explored transitioning from an “at-large” trustee election system to a “by-trustee area” system, where each Board member must reside within their designated trustee-area boundary, and is elected only by the voters in that trustee area. Under the by-trustee area system, voters would only vote for one seat on the school board.

The California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) prohibits the use of an at-large election in political subdivisions if it would impair the ability of a protected class, to elect candidates of its choice or otherwise influence the outcome of an election. While the District does not believe that its current form of elections violates the CVRA, the Board of Trustees decided to begin the process to transition from at-large to trustee-area elections in May.

During the fall semester, labor partner Campbell High School Teachers Association (CHSTA) encouraged the Board of Trustees to consider moving to a by-trustee system.  Soon thereafter, the Board of Trustees learned that the City of Campbell had received a demand letter from a legal firm alleging that the city’s at-large method of election violates the CVRA. And, on January 15, 2019, Campbell’s City Council adopted a resolution of intent to transition from at-large to District-based Elections pursuant to California Elections Code Section 10010(e)(2).

After further study and in advance of receiving a demand letter, the District passed a similar resolution on May 16, 2019, in part to avoid possible litigation. By law, the process to establish the required election area maps must be completed in 90 days, so the District was required to conduct the process of examing draft election maps during the summer recess.

Thank you to all that attended and if you have further questions please reach out to our Trustees Robert Varich rvarich@cuhsd.org, Stacey Brown at staceybrown@cuhsd.org or our Superintendent Dr. Bravo at rbravo@cuhsd.org.
